Divisoria, Sweetened Tamarind and Fried Anchovies

in Filipino Street Foods, Weekend Snapshot

Today I went to Divisoria with Sis because we had to buy stuffs for Ykaie’s upcoming second birthday.

Divisoria is a market district in the heart of the city of Manila famous for its wide assortment of low-priced goods and wholesale bargain shopping. Clothes, accessories, toys, novelties, decorations, pirated films and music, electronics, fruits, dry goods, school, office and household supplies, fabrics, textiles, crafts, novelties, decorations and “everything under the sun” can be found in Divisoria, making it “the mecca of value shopping” and “the mother of all markets in Manila.” If it exists, it is available in Divisoria.(source: Wikipilipinas)

We usually buy stuffs here because it’s really really cheap specially if you buy them in bulk. Here, I took a shot when we stopped for a little rest. We went at around 1pm so it was really hot out there. The market is not usually busy during Sundays but because its soon-to-be Holiday Season, many people are shopping for Halloween and Christmas decorations.

Sweetened Tamarind (P5/$0.10 per small brown bag)
This is tamarind cooked in sugar to sweeten it up then rolled in sugar before serving. This is sold on the streets of Divisoria, you know, just in case you want something to nibble on while walking.
Fried Anchovies (P5/$0.10)
Anchovies seasoned with sugar and salt then fried until crispy. This one I actually like and love to nibble on in front of the telly.
I’m sorry for such a short update. I’m really tired and my day doesn’t end there..of course I’m here, watching the internet café tonight..I’ll post more pictures tomorrow.
an entry for and MellowYellowBadge. Hope all your weekends are great!
