Pumpkin Pie Spiced Halloween Pancake

It’s nearly Halloween…don’t you think it’s time to make Halloween pancakes?

Yes, I think so too and I am giddy by the thought of anything Halloween…

like Jack O’ Lanterns…. and Spiders… and Blood… and Bats….and Witches!

But do you know that I hate the color Orange?

Oh, HATE is too strong a word.. I don’t hate orange, I just don’t like it very much.

Why? Because I don’t look good in orange. As a matter of fact, I don’t own any orange piece of clothing.

Halloween is the only time of the year when I start to love orange like a summer fling– in combination with Black of course!

..and you’ll see a lot more orange in the coming days so watch out.

I know I’ve been telling you for two straight mornings that I’m gonna be making this pancakes but due to bad weather and the kids’ demand to go malling with my sister yesterday, I wasn’t able to.

Forgive me?

I’ll give you a Spider Pancake as a peace offering…..

Pumpkin Pie Spiced Halloween PancakeOkay, so I don’t know how to draw a very scary spider…LOL! But I can guarantee it’s delish and I know you’d agree it’s cute and it’s fun.

I saw the idea over at Tidy Mom and I thought it’s cool. Since I made my Pumpkin Pie Spice, I thought why not use it to flavor the pancakes.

Pumpkin Pie Spiced Halloween Pancake

Ingredients:

100g squash/pumpkin, diced
Pancake mix yes, I use a ready-made pancake mix because I don’t have time to make it from scratch and I used Pillsbury
1 tbsp Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice
4 drops Orange gel food coloring

for the syrup, I used prepared chocolate syrup colored with Black gel food coloring

Directions:

  • Place diced pumpkin/squash in a baking dish. Sprinkle with a few drops of  oil and bake at 190°C for 10 minutes or until it is golden and soft.
  • Mash roasted pumpkin/squash with a fork.
  • Mix Pillsbury pancake Mix according to package directions.
  • Add mashed pumpkin, homemade pumpkin pie spice and orange gel food coloring.
  • Cook pancake as you normally would, heat a non-stick pan and grease slightly with butter.
  • Scoop about ¼ cup batter onto the hot griddle.
  • Cook until bubbles appear on the surface and the edges look dry.
  • Turn over and cook until golden brown.
  • Draw creepy Halloween characters such as Jack O’ Lanterns, Spider Web and spiders with the black chocolate syrup.

note:

You can use your regular recipe for pancake, if you prefer, just add pumpkin pie spice and put orange food color.

If your kids aren’t so adventurous with food, don’t add pumpkin pie spice, just the orange food color.

Pumpkin Pie Spiced Halloween Pancake

My daughter, plate in hand,  patiently waited in the kitchen for the pancakes to cook.

She was excited to have breakfast. At first I thought it was because of the chocolate syrup.

But when she was eating the pancake, I realized, she was excited to draw with the chocolate syrup as she eats!

She started making the Jack’ O Lantern pancake cry by drawing tears..LOL!

  10. Oh! With Orange although I did not like the color much I do have tops with this color. Same with you I use pillsbury for pancakes 🙂 sometimes I also use Maya.
