The Fruit Cake and Rum Cake I made…

When I received an invite to try a out a short Baking Course at The Global Academy, I got excited. I love cooking and baking but I never took a formal course in baking. Everything that I make was either passed on from family or I learned through taste buds and heart.

Food for the Gods…

My invites says that I could choose one course to attend among the Epicurean Lab Short Courses. Since it’s nearly Christmas and I love sweets and cakes, I chose the Christmas Giveaway Baking Course. I thought these are the perfect giveaway to friends and family! It’s for five hours and we will make Fruits Cake, Food for the Gods and Rum Cake.

I arrived a bit too early for the class. I was given an apron and a folder containing the recipes for all three baked goodies.

The class started at around 10am. Chef Kat Pascual facilitated the class. She was fun, easy to follow and very professional.

Epicurean Laboratory, where all short courses are held.

There are two kinds of short courses at The Global Academy, the Demo Class and the Hands-On Class.

In the Demo Class, the chef will present to the students the proper techniques of cooking the dishes for the day which they can replicate on their own later on. These classes have a maximum of 12 students and  has 3-hour sessions.

In the Hands-On Class, the chef demonstrates the recipes and the students then proceed to make the dishes on their own. They will be able to eat or take home the food they made after class. These classes have a maximum of 9 students and lasts for 5 hours per session.

The Christmas Giveaway Course is a hands-on class that costs ₱3,500.

These are the cakes before they went into the oven.

Before I never thought of checking these short courses from culinary schools because I know that they are pretty expensive. The Global Academy short courses are quite affordable. Prices range from ₱2,400 to ₱14,000 depending on the course that you are going to get. There’s also an early bird discount if payments are made 7 days before the class.

Thank you so much Global Academy. It was such a fun learning experience. I love all the recipes, specially the Food for the Gods!

Oh my these sweet treats you bake. I am drooling on  all of it. I haven’t tried a rhum cake..does it taste like rhum? Cooking is really not for me that’s why I admire those who love it to be in the kitchen to cook or bake. This laboratory i see in the picture is so neat – i am sure that is enough inspiration for all of you in the class to bake.
