Josephine’s Restaurant Tagaytay

Josephine’s Restaurant has been in Tagaytay since 1995 but it was my first time to eat there a month ago. There’s  a small area outside the restaurant on the ridge overlooking the Taal Lake and the Taal Volcano  and that’s where peanutbutter, Ykaie and I spent a bit of our time while waiting for our orders to arrive.

Aperitifs are getting to be quite a habit specially when peanutbutter‘s around. We ordered a Manhattan {₱140} and Remy Martin VSOP {₱350} to start off with dinner. Manhattan is is a cocktail made with whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters… garnished with a Maraschino cherry with a stem or two in our case.

At that time, I didn’t want something that was too heavy, so I ordered two appetizers instead. First was the Crispy Kangkong {₱195} which I expected to be lightly battered and crispy but we got a heavily battered basket. And with heavy batter covering each kangkong leaf, it tends to get hard as it cools into room temperature. We weren’t able to finish the whole basket.

I loved the Oyster Rockefeller {₱280}, though, ’cause I could tell the oysters were fresh. They were juicy and sweet! I could eat those things without the buttery sauce and the crispy bread crumb toppings.

My hungry loves excited for the food that was about to be served….

peanutbutter missed fresh seafood so we had Inihaw na Lumot {₱320} which  is a large calamari/squid stuffed with onions and tomatoes then char-grilled to perfection and  served with atsara. The calamari also tasted fresh and it wasn’t rubbery.

Mango Salsa {₱135} is a no-fail, good company to anything grilled. It was the perfect thing to go with our Inihaw na Lumot.

Pork Sinigang {₱320} is as per Ykaie’s request. I guess she wanted something warm, soupy and comforting since it was getting colder towards night time. And sinigang is just one of her favorite comfort food.

Josephine’s Restaurant did not disappoint and who knows, we could be back there for the second time despite the many restaurants in Tagaytay.
