Last year, Sis and I worked on a Santa Claus theme for our Noche Buena. This year, we thought about making a Snowman-themed one which I think we were able to slightly pull off.

But let me give you a bit of a history first, our Noche Buenas before were prepared by my mom with the help of some of my aunts. There’s the traditional Ham and Queso de Bola plus other heavy dishes like  pasta, rice, and viands. When my mom got older, the preparation of our Noche Buena was turned over to my sister and I. We didn’t like heavy food at night and then the idea of stuffing ourselves again the next day also didn’t sound very appealing. We decided that it would be nice to just eat finger foods and the traditional Ham and Queso de Bola. Since there are kids in the family, we also thought it would be nice to inject a little bit of fun into our Christmas Eve Dinner by having a theme each year. That started all the fun.

The morning of December 24th found us busy in the kitchen. One of the food I made for our Snowman-Themed Noche Buena is this Snowman Cheese Ball. I wanted to call him Frosty the Cheese Ball…but it sounds kinda wrong, doesn’t it? haha.

This Snowman Cheese Ball is made up of three kinds of cheeses: Cream Cheese, Cheddar, and Parmesan. A lovely combination that will definitely take your palate to cheese heaven. Not only that, this cheese ball is also bursting with flavor. Frosty’s head is Pesto flavored while Frosty’s body if full of crumbled bacon….mmmmmm…bacon.

The hat is made up of a piece of Hi-ro which I bought at the neighbor’s sari-sari store and a cadbury chocolate from aunt’s fridge. hahaha.. I forgot to buy something for the hat.

The scarf is made from a gummy belt; Frosty’s eyes, mouth, and buttons are made up of peppercorns; and the nose is made up of cut-out carrots (what else?). The arms are from sis’s Parmesan Crisps.

It’s cold, creamy, and savory. Perfect to pair with these salted Christmas pretzels I found at the supermarket!

These are  just the cutest pretzels in the shape of bells, stars and Christmas trees.

That’s it for today. I will be posting the rest of our Noche Buena 2013 photos tomorrow.

Snowman Cheese Ball in Pesto and Bacon Flavor

  • Author: The Peach Kitchen

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 (8 oz.) package cream cheese
  • 1 cup grated Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 1/2 tbsp pesto
  • 1/4 cup cooked crumbled bacon
  • grated parmesan cheese for rolling
  • peppercorns for the eyes, mouth and buttons
  • a gummy belt for the scarf
  • a breadstick for the arms
  • a pieces of oreo and chocolate for the hat

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, 1/3 cup grated cheddar cheese, and pesto. Mix well.
  2. In another bowl, combine 2 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, 2/3 cup cheddar cheese, and crumbled bacon. Mix Well.
  3. When combined form two balls, one large and one small. They wont be perfect yet because the cheese is too soft. Place the cheese in a plastic and chill in the freezer for about 15 minutes.
  4. When the cheese has firmed up smooth it out, roll in grated parmesan cheese, and place the large one on the bottom (crumbled bacon) and small one (pesto) on top for the body.
  5. Add the peppercorns for the eyes, mouth, and buttons.
  6. Stick the carrots in the middle of the face for the nose.
  7. Stick a preztzel or breadstic to make the arms and cut the gummy belt to resemble a scarf.
  8. Chill in the fridge until ready to serve.
  9. Serve with pretzels, cut up veggies or crackers.

  8. I know This is an old recipe but I have A question. We are doing a Christmas in July party. Does the top ball have Parm reg cheese and pesto inside or is it 1/3 cup cheddar.? The cheddar amount is 1 cup but only 2/3 gets used and that is in the bottom ball.

    1. Oh my gosh! I am so sorry about that! I corrected it. The top ball has the 1/3 cup cheddar! The grated parm cheese is only for rolling the cheeseballs.
