Ykaie wasn’t the only one who had a nice Valentine’s breakfast the other day. Since I’m still battling this pesky colds, I decided to shock it again with lots of Vitamin C and fruits. So I made myself a smoothie with a piece of frozen banana and some strawberries I keep in the freezer for when I’m craving for a smoothie.

With the way we’re eating strawberries  at home these days, you’d think we have a Strawberry Farm in our backyard. Of course we don’t. We don’t even have a backyard. But then, like what I’ve said in my previous post: Strawberries are in season and they are cheaper than usual. I buy strawberries every other day to take advantage of it’s affordability and availability.

Strawberries are an excellent source of Vitamin C which boosts immunity, so as much as possible I make sure we have Strawberries in the fridge for some quick snacking.

Other health benefits of Strawberries include:

  • It’s rich in cancer-preventing anti-oxidants
  • It helps burn stored fat.
  • It boosts short term memory.
  • It lowers cardiovascular disease.
  • It promotes bone health.
  • It has anti- aging properties.
  • It promotes eye health.
  • Strawberries fight bad cholesterol
  • It regulates blood pressure
  • It’s high in fiber

Since I made this on Valentine’s Day, I made sure to write a Valentine’s Day greeting on my bananas for a romantic feel. I’d love to have someone play me something romantic with a cremona sv-75pp premier novice at WWBW out in the balcony too..ehem, but there was no one but me and Ykaie.

You can totally make this smoothie anytime of the year as long as you have bananas and strawberries. This is so easy to do, you don’t even need a recipe to be able to make it.

But I’m OC so I do. Please just indulge me. I’m keeping a recipe here just to keep my mind at peace.

  1. Waiting for strawberry season to start off so that I can make lots of smoothies like this (and eat lots of strawberries too!). Usually I make smoothie as simple as this too – some berries + a banana (a must for me) and some yogurt or milk or vanilla ice-cream

  2. I am similar to you. When produce are on sale, I grab it without any thought on what to do with it. I also prepare this smoothie as my daughter’s breakfast. It is delicious.

    I love your pictures.

  3. If only strawberries are not that expensive here in Manila, maybe we will do this smoothie everyday. Sana kapitbahay lang ang Baguio 🙂

  4. Banana-strawberry is one of my favorite smoothie combinations. And I like it that you recipe does not have sugar and instead adds honey to taste. Very healthy!

    1. Don’t buy strawberries from the supermarket kasi mahal talaga. Buy from fruit stands or kaya there’s a frozen strawberries from SM bonus, mas mura.

  5. Fruity flavors in a smoothie taste really refreshing. This is one of the best drinks we can have this coming summer season! 🙂

  6. That smoothie looks delicious! i would love to concoct my own smoothie if I only knew how haha

  7. Aside from the health benefits of these smoothies, I love the hidden truth, at least for me that these fruit concoctions can be labeled as comfort drinks, just like our rich list of comfort foods around.

  8. Thanks so much for this one sis Peachy. I just bought a blender and I don’t know what kind of smoothie recipe I will make.

  9. I had the same smoothie last night – but without the milk. I added mangoes, though, to make it a bit sweeter since the strawberries we bought were extra sour. 😀

  10. This will definitely make my youngest son’s day. Kiko loves strawberry and banana and I’m sure he will say WOW once he sees this heart-shaped fave.

  11. I want to try this at home too! I love your presentation <3 It's like I just ordered it from a restaurant. 🙂

  12. WOW! this is so timely! I wanted to do some healthy, organic juicing and I think I;ll give this a try. Im sure my hubby would like this as well because he loves bananas and fruit shakes. hihi!:)

Where did you buy your mason jar?:) Hihi I want one too!!!:)

  13. aaaaaaah…..I’m drooling on that smoothie! Is non-fat milk okay if I’m dieting and taking out the carbs? I’m trying the no carbs diet starting next week.

It’s the first time I’ve learned that strawberries are good for short-term memory…sigh, I don’t know if it’s really because of my giving birth as they say but my memory’s pretty bad now…as compared to the years prior to having kids.

Lovely recipe, love that glass. I love everything about this. Totally sharing! <3

    1. Thanks May! Yes, nonfat milk is okay. It will still taste really good. I don’t think I can do the no carbs diet, though. It’s too hard!!!

  14. I will really bookmark your site na 🙂 it’s good to know na there is a food blogger like you who shares her simple healthy recipes! gusto ko to :))) Kaya lang it’s difficult to find fresh strawberries here.

  15. Oooh. I remember buying a kilo of strawberries in Baguio when we went there because there are so so affordable, almost about P60 per kilo. Because I was an impulse buyer, I bought immediately and thought about snacking on it on the way home. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to finish it all and ended up soggy and ugly after the trip. Sayang!

  16. Hi Peachy where did you buy your mason jar?
Been looking for that in True Value but it’s always out of stock.
    *smooches*

  17. Hi Peach, I also take advantage of strawberry season. I even ask my office mate to buy 1 kilo or 2 for me whenever he goes home to Baguio 🙂

Just wondering where you bought the mason jar with the handle? I’ve been wanting to buy for the longest time. Thanks!
