Valentine Sugar Hearts

Sugar Hearts

Love is doing the laundry even you don’t want to and then hanging the clothes to dry even if that’s the part of doing the laundry you hate most.

Love is driving me all the way to Makati, BGC, and to anywhere where travel time takes 2 hours and there’s lots of traffic.

Love is waking up early and volunteering at night to walk the dog.

Love is sleeping with your back against mine so that I’ll have back support and I’ll sleep really well.

Love is giving me a hug on days I need it most.

Love is trying to hold your laugh and hugging me while I cry on every freaking movie ending.

Love is asking me what I want each and every time.

Love is saying “thank you, mahal. I love you.” every morning as I hand you your coffee.

Love is playing doll house with Ykaie when I have tons of things to do.

There aren’t even grumpy mornings anymore. Thank you for making me feel appreciated and not taken for granted. It’s those little things that you do that makes it seem like it’s Valentine’s Day everyday. I love you. You know who you are…

Sugar Hearts

I made these Sugar Hearts last night just so we could inject a little valentine love even in our morning coffee. Well, technically that’s peanutbutter‘s coffee because I’m still pregnant and I can’t drink coffee … but I know you get the picture.

This is very easy to do and you can actually make them in any color you want. Instead of making it into the usual sugar cubes, making it heart-shaped kind of brightens up your day.

You can put it in a small jar and tie a red ribbon around it and it could also make for a great gift!

There are three ingredients which I’m sure you can find in your cupboard right now.  All it needs is a little effort.

It’s Friday the 13th tonight and then it’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow. What are your plans to celebrate this great day of Lve?

Sugar Hearts

  • Author: Peachy Adarne

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 tsp water
  • 12 drops of red food color (depending on how red you want your sugar hearts) I used Americlor in Red Red
  • I used a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to mold the sugar

Instructions

  1. Put sugar in a bowl.
  2. Add water and mix well. The sugar should look like sand when you’re building a sand castle.
  3. If the sugar is too wet, it will be hard to hold up its shape after molding. If the sugar is too dry, it will not harden after it has dried.
  4. Add food color and mix well again.
  5. Trace the heart shape of cookie cutter onto a cardboard.
  6. Cut the heart shape out from cardboard. Cut it a little smaller so that it can go through the cookie cutter.
  7. Scoop some wet sugar into the cutter, press with finger until they get firmed and packed in the cutter.
  8. Place the heart shaped cardboard on the top of the cutter. Slowly lift the cutter up and push the sugar down in a baking pan (you may want to oven-dry it later)
  9. You may air-dry overnight Or you may use a 200 ºF (90 ºC) oven to dry it for 5 minutes.
