Green Pinipig, Taro, and Coconut Milk Drink

Green Pinipig, Taro, and Coconut Milk — not your usual dessert-drink combination but try it and you’ll love it.

Green Pinipig, Taro, and Coconut Milk Drink

32 weeks and I feel like my baby is trying to claw her way out of my belly! She moves like she’s a having a party inside my tummy all day everyday. There are times when it gives me a jolt and surprises me but there are times when her movements relaxes me and calms me. I could just sit quietly and simply feel it….enjoy it.

A lot has happened the last couple of weeks…

  • A childhood playmate/neighbor/friend/ told me she needed a job and applied to be our househelp two weeks ago. She wasn’t doing really good in life and her son is actually my god child. She needed a job and I needed a househelp. I thought it was something we could mutually benefit from, so I hired her. She asked me for an advance of her salary which I also gave her out of trust. We agreed that Sunday was her day off but come saturday, she asked if she can leave after lunch. I told her that wasn’t what we talked about but I let her go. She reassured me that she’ll be back early on monday. You can guess what happened after that…. yup, she didn’t come back. So goodbye to the salary I gave her in advance…. but good riddance to her as well.
  • I’m worried that my baby is pushing down and that I’ll have preterm labor. My doctor advised me to take lots of rest and told me to avoid going to the mall. That means no events for me for the mean time. I think I’ll give it a rest this June and July….
  • I don’t go to the wet market as much and I limit myself into cooking once a day.
  • Ykaie is  really a big girl now and has been a lot of help around the house lately. She’s growing up to be a responsible little girl. I’m reminded how peanutbutter and I are raising her well.

We went to Quiapo last Sunday, and I’m really glad we did because I was able to pour my heart out in prayers…

Green Pinipig, Taro, and Coconut Milk Drink

I’m also glad I saw green pinipig being sold outside the church. I am a huge fan of green pinipig.

If you are a Halo-Halo fan, I’m sure you know what Pinipig is. Pinipig are those flat, pounded glutinous rice grains used as topping for halo-halo, flavor for polvoron, and ingredient in making rice cakes. It is usually beige in color and is toasted by frying (without oil) in a pan.

The green pinipig is the same as the beige pinipig, only young grains are used. It smells heavenly. If you’re wondering if we toast it, we don’t and there is only one way we eat this variety — by turning it into this dessert-drink. I don’t even know what this is called. All I know is that I’ve been eating green pinipig this way ever since I was a little girl.

Green Pinipig, Taro, and Coconut Milk Drink

A spoonful of boiled taro and pinipig plus a sip of iced cold sweet coconut milk……… Ahhh.. one of the flavors of my childhood Summers.

I know you may find it weird but don’t knock it till you try it…

Do you know of any other ways to eat green pinipig?

  13. Oh I am sorry that woman flaked out on your. How rude! I loved your recipe even though I have to admit I have no idea what pinipig is. I did chuckle when you said you could have your local coconut vendor. If Only!! I live in Mt. Airy NC and they already think I’m odd for asking for cous cous lol 🙂 I’d love to try this recipe though it seems decadent. Best of Luck with the new baby 🙂

  14. We’ve been drinking a lot of coconut water around here. I wonder if we would like this? Sounds really good.

  15. What an interesting drink! I’ve heard of pinipig, but this is the first time that I’ve seen a green pinipig. For sure it is delish. I can’t wait to try it.

  16. I am so sorry that your friend did that to you. From my previous experiences, I personally found that it is best not to mix friendship and business relations. I hope that she will do the right thing and return her advanced salary.

I hope that you don’t have preterm labor either. Do your best to put your feet up as much as you can.

  17. I have never heard of this before. It looks like it would be delicious. I will have to try it sometime.

  18. OMG I love halo halo! When I saw this drink it reminded me of how refreshing it was and how I just need to try this! Thank you for sharing!

  19. Ohhhh my goodness… I’m so sorry to hear about your experience with your “friend”! 🙁
That makes me sad. I can only imagine how you must feel, or what your godson may be going through right now too. I don’t know what would compel someone to steal like that but I hope she comes to her senses quickly.
The little baby movements used to happen mostly when I was attempting to sleep lol. I loved that part of pregnancy though… I’m not much of a sleeper anyway, so at least I had company! 😛

  20. I have never seen green pinipig before. Does it taste exactly like the dried pinipig? That story about your “friend” is very maddening. Bad people like that make us lose faith in the goodness of humanity.

  21. I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. Scary talaga people these days; you can’t just trust anyone. A colleague of mine borrowed money from me, said that she needed to pay Meralco and that she had a debit without dispense transaction but will return the sum in 7 working days. I loaned her the money and it’s been a month. She’ avoiding like the plague at work. Lol.

This coconut milk drink seems refreshing and with the green pinipig, it makes the drink look more yummy.

  22. Looks delicious.  Thanks for introducing me to pinipig, never heard of it before.  I once had Taro icecream and it’s so delicious! it reminded me of the sweet potato ice cream I grew up eating.  So good!

  23. Pinipig is a big part of my childhood days. We used to eat them raw, no roasting. But those are regular-colored pinipig not green ones.

  24. Great ingredients for this refreshing beverage, and really adding another ingredients as a twist in flavor could be more tasty. Pinipig is very good even when eaten separately.

  25. Wow i’ve never even heard of pinipig, it sure looks like an interesting drink. So close for baby, wishes you lots of comfort over the next few weeks.
