Stir-Fried Garlicky Tao Miao (Snow Pea Sprouts)

Tao Miao, Dou Miao, Tomyao… It is called many names but one thing is for sure, these sprouts with tiny green leaves are snow pea sprouts or snow pea shoots.

The first time I’ve tried this was at the launching of Choobi-Choobi in Panay Ave.  The first thing they served us during the event was their Cha tao Miao or Stir-Fried Snow Pea Shoots. I loved it ever since I’ve tried it and has actually gone back to Choobi Choobi when I had the craving.

Surprise, Surprise.. I saw some Tomyao being sold in the supermarket last week. Now I wonder why I haven’t noticed these being sold at Landmark Supermarket before? Maybe because I didn’t know it yet and now subconsciously, I am looking where I can buy some so I can cook it at home.

This is a great Lenten dish and is very easy to cook. It takes about 5 minutes and you’re done. You get crispy, garlicky, flavorful vegetable dish which you can eat alone, with rice, or as a side dish to meat.

Make sure you buy young sprouts or new sprouts, though, because older (or magulang) sprouts tend to be tough even when it’s already cooked.

So what’s up with us today? Well, we just sold our old washing machine! Weee! Remember when we got our Electrolux T-Drive Washing Machine back in October last year? Our semi-automatic one has been put aside and has gathered dust until today.

peanutbutter posted it up online this morning and at 4pm today, he got a buyer. We sold it for less than half of it’s value when we bought it but hey, at least it won’t gather dust anymore. And the people who’ll buy it will be able to use it. Besides, it takes up space in my teeny tiny kitchen and now the kitchen’s more spacious!! Weee!

Good job, peanutbutter!
