Because nothing says love like a hot meal packed with care.
When the skies turn gray and raindrops start falling, I just know it’s time to bring out the trusty thermos. There’s something so comforting about opening your baon and being greeted by a warm, hearty meal—especially on a rainy school day. Whether it’s for your kids, your spouse, or even for yourself, these Thermos meal ideas will make lunchtime feel like a warm hug in the middle of the day.
Why Thermos Meals Work So Well
- They stay warm until lunch (perfect for soups and saucy ulam!)
- Easy to prepare and pack
- Adds that “lutong bahay” touch even when you’re miles away from home
Here are some of my favorite Thermos baon ideas that have saved many gloomy mornings:

1. Chicken Sopas
A classic Filipino comfort food! Creamy, milky, and loaded with veggies, macaroni, and tender chicken. Pack it in a thermos and it stays hot and satisfying until lunch.
Tip: Use elbow macaroni and slightly undercook it so it doesn’t get mushy by lunchtime.
2. Nilaga Rice Bowl
Leftover nilagang baka? Remove some of the broth, shred the meat, and pack it with hot rice. Add a bit of the sabaw in a separate thermos or pour it in just before packing. Comfort in every spoonful.

3. TapSiLog Rice Bowl
Rainy day? Tapsilog to the rescue! Sweet-savory tapa, garlic rice, and a soft sunny-side up egg packed in a thermos is a guaranteed hit. The steam from the rice helps keep everything warm and flavorful—parang fresh off the kawali!
Tip: Cook the tapa a little saucy so it doesn’t dry out by lunchtime. Bonus points if you sneak in some atchara!
4. Miso Ramen with Veggies
Use ramen noodles, add hot miso broth, blanched veggies, and some boiled egg slices. Just make sure to separate the noodles from the soup and combine them during lunch to keep it fresh.
5. Tinapa Fried Rice
Tinapa + garlic rice + a touch of scrambled egg = smoky, delicious baon that doesn’t need ulam. Super easy and perfect for busy mornings!
6. Ginisang Monggo with Malunggay
Rainy days and monggo go hand in hand! Add some tinapa or chicharon on top for that oomph. Monggo retains heat well in a thermos and gets even more flavorful as it sits.
7. Sweet Ending: Ginataang Bilo-Bilo
Why not send a sweet warm treat, too? This classic merienda becomes a delightful dessert baon. It’s comforting, filling, and stays warm beautifully.
Thermos Tips para Hindi Mapaso o Lumamig Agad:
✅ Pre-heat the thermos with hot water before adding the food
✅ Wrap it in a towel to retain heat longer
✅ Pack tightly to minimize air gaps (air cools down food faster)
Rainy days can be tough on our little ones, especially with long commutes and cold classrooms. A warm meal from home is one way we can send them a little comfort, even from afar. 🧡
Let me know which one you’ll try—or if you have your own go-to rainy day baon idea, I’d love to hear it!
Stay warm and dry, mga momshies!
