Lately, we’ve been enjoying a lot of lunch dates — a bit of quality time squeezed in between errands and job transitions. Like what I mentioned before, Daddydoodledoo is currently in between jobs, and I’ve been tagging along while he completes his pre-employment requirements — medical, clearances, and all that adulting stuff. Of course, habang nag-aasikaso siya, sabay na rin ang mini food adventures namin!

Last Friday, we found ourselves in the ever-vibrant streets of Maginhawa, a go-to food spot if you’re looking for something casual, cozy, and sulit. We were both hungry and in the mood for something different, so I suggested we try Chick Chicken — a place I’ve been curious about. But since Ykaie also wants to try it, sabi ko, “Let’s save it for when the four of us can go together.” Besides, Daddydoodledoo wasn’t in the mood for fried chicken that day.

After a few minutes of walking and scanning menus posted outside restos (classic Maginhawa experience), we ended up at Homa Persian Cuisine. We both love kebabs and biryani, so it was an easy choice.

To start off our meal, we ordered their Hummus (₱150) and just one Pita Bread (₱25) to share. The hummus was creamy, smooth, and had that perfect balance of tangy and nutty flavors. Honestly, I wish we ordered more pita — bitin!

Since I already had an Iced Gula Melaka earlier (yes, dessert before lunch ako minsan hehe), I just went for the Chicken Koubideh (₱190). It came with basmati rice, grilled tomato, and grilled chili. The chicken was tender, juicy, and had just the right amount of seasoning. What tied everything together was the garlicky white sauce — not unlimited like Mr. Kebab’s, pero winner pa rin sa lasa!

Daddydoodledoo tried the Beef Soltani (₱340), which had one stick of beef tenderloin and one stick of minced beef kebab. The beef tenderloin was grilled to perfection — smoky on the outside and still juicy on the inside. The minced beef had that rich Persian spice flavor and went so well with the fluffy rice.

We didn’t get to try their biryani this time, but that just gives us another reason to go back — maybe with Ykaie and Twinkle next time para full foodie fam ang peg.

Lunch dates like this may seem simple, but they’ve become little pockets of joy for us in the middle of busy days. It’s nice to take a break, share a meal, and just talk about anything under the sun — even if it’s just over grilled meat and garlic sauce.

Homa Persian Cuisine is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the Maginhawa area and craving hearty, flavorful, and comforting Persian dishes.
