Pork Ribs with Sprite
This Pork Ribs with Sprite is one of those easy comfort dishes that surprises everyone. The natural sweetness of Sprite helps tenderize the pork while creating a rich, flavorful sauce—no complicated ingredients needed. Perfect for busy days when you want a hearty, family-approved ulam on the table with minimal effort.
Pork Ribs with Sprite

There are days when I stand in the kitchen, staring at the fridge, thinking, “Ano na naman kaya ang lulutuin ko?” No inspiration, no meal plan, just hungry people waiting and a clock that won’t slow down.

This Pork Ribs with Sprite happened on one of those days.

I honestly cooked this when I couldn’t think of any ulam to make. I saw pork ribs in the freezer, noticed a can of Sprite in the fridge, and thought, Why not? Sometimes, the best dishes really come from moments of kitchen desperation—and this one turned out to be a happy surprise.

The pork came out tender, the sauce was sweet and savory, and most importantly, the family loved it. No leftovers, no complaints, just quiet eating—which, as moms know, is already a win.

Sprite works so well in this recipe because it helps tenderize the meat while adding a subtle sweetness that balances the savory sauces. It’s not overpowering, just enough to make the dish comforting and very “ulam-worthy.”

One small note from my experience: I had to reduce the tomato paste the next time I cooked this. Using too much makes the dish a bit too tomatoey and gives it a very red color. Less tomato paste lets the sweetness of the Sprite and the richness of the pork shine through better. So feel free to adjust according to your taste—home cooking is always about tweaking until it feels right for your family.

If you’re having one of those days when your mind goes blank in the kitchen, this recipe might just save you too.

Mommy Peach’s Note

This is one of those recipes that reminds me not to overthink cooking too much. You don’t always need fancy ingredients or a long list to make something good. Sometimes, all you need is what’s already in your kitchen and little trust that it will work out.

If your family enjoys sweet-savory dishes, this Pork Ribs with Sprite is definitely worth trying. Adjust the tomato paste, taste as you go, and make it your own.

Pork Ribs with Sprite

  • Author: Peachy Adarne

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 kilo pork ribs, chopped into serving pieces
  • 1 pack tomato paste
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 can Sprite
  • Fish sauce (patis), to taste
  • Optional: seasoning granules

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the garlic and onion until fragrant and the onion becomes translucent.
  2. Add the pork ribs and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned.
  3. Add the tomato paste and oyster sauce. Mix well to coat the pork evenly.
  4. Season with ground black pepper and seasoning granules, if using. Pour in the Sprite and stir.
  5. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 40 minutes, or until the pork ribs are tender and the sauce has thickened slightly. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Season with patis according to taste.
  7. Turn off the heat and serve hot with steamed rice.

✨ Tip: For a thicker, richer sauce, uncover during the last 5–10 minutes of cooking and let it reduce slightly.
