Suam na Mais with Halaan (Filipino Corn Soup with Clams)

Suam na Mais with Halaan

Suam na Mais with Halaan – Why didn’t I cook this sooner? Ang sarap, super! I think I’ll be cooking Suam na Mais like this for a long time. Nasanay ako na kapag Suam na Mais automatic shrimp ang nilalagay because that’s how my nanay cooks this when I was younger. Now that I’m a mom, I discovered that you can add any ingredient/meat — as long as you like them. The soup won’t complain… hahaha.

Suam na Mais is Filipino Corn Soup which is usually paired with fried or grilled dishes. It can be cooked with shrimp, chicken, and in this recipe halaan or clams. The flavor changes depending on the meat that you will add to it. But of course, it will still be as delicious. Fresh corn is usually used in the recipe but because I have lots of canned corn in my pantry that’s what I used. It makes it easier too — hindi na ako maggagayat ng mais… hihihi.

I tried cooking this with chicken as well and it’s quite good too. What else do you add to your Suam recipes?
