A Prayer, A Promise, and a Plate of Longganisa: Our Visit to Sta. Clara and Dinner at Buddy’s

It was a quiet and reflective Sunday two weeks ago when we found ourselves visiting the Monasterio de Sta. Clara in Katipunan. It had been years since we last went —Ykaie was just five years old back then and Daddydoodledoo was still working overseas at Dubai Duty Free. I remember we were praying for so many things back then: stability, strength, and new beginnings. Some of those prayers were answered in unexpected ways.

This time, we came with one special petition in our hearts: that Ykaie passes her UPCAT. Like any other parent, we want the best for our kids, and we’re doing all we can — studies, support, and yes, a little divine intervention. At Sta. Clara, the tradition is to offer eggs, especially for prayers about exams, studies, or board results. So we came with our blue-wrapped eggs and whispered our prayers, trusting that they’ll reach the heavens.

Sta. Clara in Katipunan has long been a pilgrimage site known for intercessory prayers. The ritual of offering eggs is rooted in the belief that the sisters who reside there will pray for your intentions — making it a beautiful mix of faith, tradition, and quiet hope.

Buddy’s Restaurant

After lighting our candles and offering our eggs, our tummies reminded us it was time for dinner. We ended up at Buddy’s Restaurant in Fishermall—a festive, Lucban-inspired spot that always feels like a celebration.

Buddy’s is one of those places that never fails to make you feel at home. The décor is vibrant and colorful, inspired by the Pahiyas Festival, and the food? Always hearty and nostalgic.

Of course, when at Buddy’s, you have to order the Longganisang Lucban. It’s a non-negotiable. That garlicky, savory longganisa just hits the spot—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, perfect with rice or pancit, or even dipped in suka and eaten on its own (aminin, minsan papakin mo na lang talaga).

I thought I was craving Pancit Lucban, which is their specialty, but with the cool rainy weather, my body was definitely asking for something soupy and warm. So I went for their Lomi — thick, comforting, and loaded with meat and vegetables. Just what I needed.

Twinkle ordered Sisig with rice, which she ended up sharing with her daddy. She loves anything flavorful and crunchy, and that sizzling plate of sisig definitely delivered.

It was a simple Sunday, but one filled with meaning—quiet prayers, good food, and time with my little family. And sometimes, that’s all we really need. 💛
