Budget Dining Ideas: Delicious Family Meals Under ₱150

When “Anong Ulam?” Feels Like a Math Problem

Let’s be real, moms — some days it feels like we’re solving equations in the kitchen.
How do you feed a family of four, make it delicious, and still stay under ₱150?

Between grocery prices, baon prep, and that one kid who suddenly “doesn’t like” gulay anymore (ahem, Twinkle LOL!), it can get tricky. But here’s the good news: you don’t need a big budget to cook food that feels like home.

Here are some of my favorite budget Filipino family meals — simple, filling, and full of that lutong bahay comfort we all love.

1. Ginisang Ampalaya with Egg (₱80 Total)

A true lifesaver on busy weekdays! Bitterness meets balance when sautéed with garlic, onion, and egg. Serve with warm rice and you’ve got a meal that’s both healthy and hearty.

Tipid Hack: Add leftover tinapa flakes for extra umami and protein!

2. Adobong Atay at Balunbalunan (₱140 Total)

Adobo doesn’t always need pork belly — this version uses chicken gizzard and liver, simmered in soy sauce, vinegar, and lots of garlic.

Why We Love It: Masarap, malasa, and goes a long way with rice.

3. Ginisang Repolyo with Ground Pork (₱130 Total)

A quick stir-fry that stretches a small amount of meat into a full meal.
Mom Tip: Add a bit of oyster sauce for that “ulam sa karinderya” flavor!

4. Tinolang Isda (₱100 Total)

Light yet flavorful, especially on rainy days. Add sayote or papaya to make it heartier.
Bonus: Fish cooks fast — perfect for when you’re short on time and patience.

5. Tofu Sisig (₱110 Total)

All the crunch and flavor of classic sisig, minus the guilt and high cost.

Hack: Fry the tofu ahead of time and store it — quick ulam fix in minutes!

Cooking on a budget doesn’t mean cutting corners on love. ❤️
It’s about making the most of what you have, turning humble ingredients into something special, and filling your home with that “Wow mommy, ang sarap!” moment at every meal.

So next time you plan your weekly menu, remember: delicious doesn’t have to be expensive — it just needs a little creativity, a pinch of patience, and a whole lot of heart.
