Matcha Pancakes : A Delicious Twist on Classic

Matcha Pancakes

Pancakes are a breakfast staple enjoyed by people of all ages. But what if you could elevate this classic dish to new heights of flavor and visual appeal? Enter Matcha Pancakes!

Matcha isn’t just for lattes anymore. When incorporated into pancake batter, it creates a delightful twist that’s both beautiful and delicious. The vibrant green color is a feast for the eyes, while the subtle earthy taste of matcha adds a unique dimension to our favorite fluffy pancake.

Beyond Breakfast:

Matcha Pancakes are perfect for more than just mornings. They can be enjoyed as a delightful brunch option, a sweet after-school snack, or even a fun dessert.

Endless Topping Possibilities:

The beauty it lies in their versatility. Here are some topping ideas to inspire your inner brunch master:

  • Classic: Butter and maple syrup forever hold a special place.
  • Fruity: Fresh berries, sliced bananas, or a decadent mango compote add a burst of sweetness and color.
  • Whipped Cream: A dollop of whipped cream adds a touch of luxury and complements the matcha’s earthiness.
  • Chocolate: Drizzle with melted chocolate or add chocolate chips to the batter for a decadent twist.
  • Asian-inspired: Top with toasted sesame seeds, a drizzle of honey, and a dollop of sweetened condensed milk for a unique twist.

Tips for Perfect Matcha Pancakes:

  • Use high-quality matcha: The better the matcha, the better the flavor of your pancakes. Look for culinary-grade matcha powder.
  • Don’t overmix: Overmixing can lead to tough pancakes. Mix the batter just until the dry ingredients are incorporated.
  • Low and slow is the way to go: Cook your pancakes over medium-low heat to ensure even cooking and prevent the matcha color from dulling.

Matcha Pancake Recipe Variations:

The basic matcha pancake recipe is endlessly adaptable. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Vegan: Use plant-based milk and a flaxseed egg substitute for a delicious vegan option.
  • Gluten-free: Substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend for a dietary-friendly twist.
  • High-protein: Add a scoop of protein powder to the batter for an extra protein boost.

Matcha pancakes are a fun and delicious way to elevate your breakfast game. So grab your whisk, dust off your pan, and get ready to experience the magic of matcha!

Matcha Magic: A Delicious Twist on Classic Pancakes

  • Author: Peachy Adarne

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon matcha powder
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted (plant-based for dairy-free)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ¼ cup milk (almond or your preference)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, matcha powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the well in the dry ingredients.
  5. Gently whisk the batter until just combined, taking care not to overmix. A few small lumps are okay.
  6. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes. This allows the baking powder to activate for fluffier pancakes.
  7. Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat and lightly coat it with cooking spray.
  8. Pour about ¼ cup of batter per pancake onto the hot skillet.
  9. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until bubbles appear on the surface and the edges start to set.
  10. Flip the pancakes and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Serve immediately and enjoy your matcha pancakes with your favorite toppings! Some ideas include maple syrup, whipped cream, fresh fruit, or even a white chocolate drizzle.
