“Mommy, it’s BLOOD!!” came a shriek from my overly dramatic 6 year old when she saw me taking a photo of this garnet concoction. I told her it’s my juice for the day and that it contains Sugar Beets and Watermelon.
I heard a whispered eww from the back of her hand that was covering her mouth.
Like her, I am not so fond of things I am not familiar with specially those that I have seen for the first time. But my sense of food adventure always gives me a push whenever I’m thinking of backing out. To tell you honestly, this was the first time in a long time that I was able to taste Sugar Beets again. I had it when I was a teenager and I didn’t like it so much. I swore I’m never gonna eat beets again even if my life depended on it.
Well, technically this time, I wasn’t gonna eat it — I’m gonna drink it.
I was actually tempted to just take a photo and pour it out in the sink.
Ykaie stayed with me while I take the photo of this Sugar Beets and Watermelon Juice. I think she was curious about the drink too and she’s waiting because she’ll judge the juice based on what my reaction will be when I drink it.
The thoughts running on my mind were: “Okay, so I have to drink this whether I like it or not.” “Oh, it’s not gonna be so bad, it has watermelon. YOU like watermelon.” “Psh. Just give it a sip, you chicken”
I uncorked the bottle and took one sip.. sort of like testing the waters….
What do you know? It is sweet… and mostly tasted like watermelon juice only with subtle earthy notes. Not bad, not bad at all. I didn’t like the color but I love the flavor. I think t would also be great if I added some mint leaves!
Oh my taste has matured a lot..LOL! It’s like I am meeting Sugar Beets for the first time. (Hi Sugar Beets, I’m Peachy.. it’s so nice to meet you…)
I think it’s safe to say that I like Beets now and that I must try and eat it in its normal form….
I chugged this whole bottle plus some leftovers from the pitcher. I told Ykaie how surprisingly good it was and she looked at me with suspecting eyes..hahaha. I think it’s time I teach her how to appreciate sugar beets…
Sugar Beets has amazing health benefits. It is not only good for detoxification, it also contains powerful antioxidant, folic acid, potassium, magnesium and iron as well as vitamins A, B6 and C. Thanks to my Breville Juice Fountain Max for reuniting me with beets..LOL!
