Easy Yasai Itame (Stir-Fried Vegetables)

Easy Yasai Itame (Stir-Fried Vegetables)

Yasai Itame is a common side dish when eating Japanese dishes. We love it along side our Beef Misono (vegetable misono pa nga ang tawag ko dun dati), Tempura or Tonkatsu. It is simply Stir-Fried Vegetables where in you can use whatever vegetable is available in the crisper. I cooked this as a side dish for the super yummy Beef Gyudon we had yesterday.

At dahil marami ang nagtatanong how I cooked it… I thought I’d share it here.

Easy Yasai Itame (Stir-Fried Vegetables)

I used bean sprouts (or togue), cabbage, carrots, and white onions to make this easy Yasai Itame. I just sautéed the white onions in butter + oil (I used butter para medyo malinamnam) for about 30 seconds and when the onions are kinda translucent, I added the carrots (kasi diba medyo matigas sya?). I stir-fried it for another seconds until slightly cooked before adding the mung bean sprouts and the cabbage. Then I drizzled it with the kikkoman soy sauce and continued to stir fry for another 2 minutes or so. Just until the vegetables are cooked but still had a crunch to it. I turned off the heat and drizzled it with the sesame oil and gave it a final stir. Ayan, ready to serve na! I didn’t put salt and pepper anymore kasi I found the taste perfect already but you can taste and season as preferred.

Yehey! One more day and it’s the weekend mommies!!! How’s the week treating you so far?

Scale
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 white onion, sliced
  • 1/2 Cabbage head, sliced thinly
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 2 cups bean sprouts (togue)
  • 2 tbsp Kikkoman Soy sauce
  • 12 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Heat oil and butter in a pan.
  2. Sauté the onions for 30 seconds and add add the carrots and stir-fry for about 30 seconds.
  3. Then add the remaining veggies: cabbage and bean sprouts.
  4. Drizzle with the kikkoman soy sauce and stir fry for about 2 minutes, when vegetables are cooked but still crunchy.
  5. Drizzle with sesame oil and give it a final stir.
  6. Transfer to a serving plate.
  7. You may add more seasoning to taste but I find the 2 tbsp of soy sauce enough.
  8. Serve with your main dish and/or steamed rice.
